Be a Buff Bride
Beth Furgurson photos

When Michelle Logan opened Richmond Balance (1806 E. Main St., 343-1234; other locations listed at richmondbalance.com), she’d just gotten married. Remembering how important it was to look her best on her big day, she decided to launch a boot camp for brides-to-be. Programs can be personalized from one session up to a much longer training regimen (the traditional camp lasts 12 weeks). “Ideally, we tell people to come in about six months before their wedding because the last two months are so stressful with last-minute planning,” Logan says. Brides who sign on for the boot camp get two personal-training sessions per week (these can be traded for sessions with the staff massage therapist and nutritionist), a gym membership and access to a special circuit-training class with other couples preparing to tie the knot.

Richmond Balance also offers a customized pre-wedding session for the bridal party. “Some brides want a really mellow, relaxing yoga session, and some want a really intense workout — it’s definitely great for the brides because it gets their minds off the jitters of the wedding day,” Logan says.
