So my current favorite show — favorite thing, really, in the whole wide world, is RuPaul’s Drag Race. This in itself tells you how our “no digital cable” experiment worked out. It leaves out a lot of details and convoluted reasoning and twisting storylines, but the short version was that when the changeover happened, we somehow still had cable, and we took it as a sign that we weren’t supposed to get rid of it after all. Which was very fortuitous, because without cable I never would have experienced the glory, beauty and sky-high drama that is RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The Boy is a fan by association. He knows that when I’m watching my show, I will be planted on the couch for an hour straight, and I will cuddle him and scratch his back and make a bowl of popcorn for us to share. And, if he is very quiet and entertains himself well enough for me to hear my show, I’ll give him a cookie when it’s over.
