I’m always on the lookout for great accent fabrics. You know, ones that would make handsome pillows and upholstery options for benches or ottomans and even custom lampshades. I just found two fabrics by the yard that I think would add tons of sizzle as accents in a room. I found both at Artéé Fabrics & Home at 5478 W. Broad St. and wanted to share them with you.

Fabric one, called “Tourmaline” ($36.95 a yard), with its flamboyant magenta and fuchsia backdrop, looks almost simultaneously like an Ikat and a Victorian design. Its peacock, olive and gold medallions provide further bursts of color, conjuring images of semiprecious stones like amethyst, peridot and its namesake tourmaline. I think the pattern buzzes with a dramatic, colorful, global-inspired look. I’d love to see it used on a long lumbar pillow on a white or neutral sofa or covering a seat on a desk or dining chair.

Fabric two, a chocolate-on-cream chain-link design ($19.95 a yard), provides a high-energy, high-contrast pseudo-'70s vibe. It pulses with dimension and graphic flamboyance. Feeling daring? Use yards of this fabric for curtain panels.
