Meet members of the Art Deco Society (these guys host fabulous parties) and see works by master artisans such as Jean Dunand and Louis Süe, whose 1925 cabinet embellished with exuberant flowers of silver and mother of pearl conveys period sleekness and shimmering sheen. Donald Deskey’s three-panel screen (pictured) delivers Deco energy, too, with its zigzag pattern and shining metal leaf.
The tour will also feature works by celebrated artists Frank Lloyd Wright, Gustav Stickley, Louis Comfort Tiffany and Eileen Gray. Gray’s Pirogue Chaise Longue, made of wood, lacquer and silver leaf, is one of my absolute favorite pieces in the museum’s whole collection.
There’ll be plenty to satisfy jewelry lovers, too, and florid velvet Art Nouveau upholstery fabrics by Alphonse Mucha and Georges de Feure are really worth extra looks.
Tour tickets are $7, and advance purchase is required. Click here to buy tickets online.
