Double Donut dog bed
Fido Park Avenue Dog Boutique, the chichi shop full of all things stylish and practical for dogs, has grown. They’ve doubled their size (from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet), extended their hours and expanded their offerings for doggy friends.

With its remodeling finally complete, Fido Park Avenue reopened on Sept. 1. They’ve planned a grand re-opening celebration, though, for Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be raffles and gifts, food and drinks, music and games — plus 25 percent off everything in the now larger store. Canine pals are welcome, too.

Owners Chris and Don Vondriska couldn’t be more excited about their shop’s new size and its expanded product lines. They stock items from 200 suppliers, with more than 2,000 in the store that "you can touch and feel,” they say.

The Vondriskas opened Fido Park Avenue in 2009 after Chris, impressed by pet boutiques in New York City, scoured stores in our area and saw a greater need for unusual and fashionable doggy accessories. She loves to source different collars and leashes, toys and healthy food, and treats and clothes for dogs of all sizes.

While there’s plenty of bling (fur stoles and perfumes) and practical things (feeders, carriers and tough toys), I’m always taken with their uncommon, high-end furnishings for pooches and their owners.

Adour elevated pet dishes
For most dog owners, pets are part of the family. That’s why, I think, their beds, blankets and bowls can and should make a design statement in the home.

Fido Park Avenue’s dog beds really stand apart. They carry great options by Louisdog and Bowsers, among other brands. Louisdog’s Oh-so-White bed, with its padded headboard and dust ruffle, is precious and perfect for a refined pet.

I love the Double Donut beds by Bowsers especially. They’re mini sofas with removable covers. The company’s Spa version has a pale blue damask pattern and is one of the shop’s best sellers. It also has an orthopedic foam insert, making it a comfortable and stylish option for older dogs.

My favorite Double Donut pattern is the graphite lattice micro velvet one (pictured). It has white piping — a great decorator detail — and if it's not in stock, it can be special ordered.

And what about the shop's fancy dog bowls (also pictured)? They’re by Unleashed Life, and they look like luxe stone urns. The elevated Adour feeders include stainless bowls, and the medium size is 9 inches high.

Fido Park Avenue Dog Boutique is at 4027 Lauderdale Drive. The shop’s now open seven days a week. Store hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
