Here are a few more items that could add some zest to a desk. Though the season's rays are fading fast, I like to think of whites and brights when adding color, style and function to a desktop or work area at back-to-school time.

Cork and magnet boards hang in many offices and kitchens. Add some interest to yours by adding custom glass pushpins or magnets packed with small, unexpected punches of color and pattern. My favorite ones are made in Richmond by Sideproject Designs. Priced at $7.25 for a set of nine magnets or pushpins, they can be purchased from their Etsy store.  So many patterns are available, both in darks and lights and florals, polka dots and stripes. The version pictured is called “retro flowers.” Provide your own design (maybe a logo or initials?), and they'll create the special pins and magnets just for you.
