When it's time to sell your home, you usually have to go through a pretty painful process that starts with an initial meeting with the real-estate agent. This is when he or she tells you that just about everything is wrong with your house, if you want to sell it.
The colors, inside and out, are all wrong, and you need to paint. You need to rearrange your furniture. You have to fix every little thing you've been neglectiing, or risk sabotaging a sale because you never noticed that the electrical outlet in the dining room doesn't work. Or that the dining room doesn't even have an outlet. Landscaping? That would be nice. And finally, the very worst news of all: You've got to clean out your closets.
Then you go through an agonizing process where you have to keep your house spotlessly clean, just in case someone might want to come by and see it. You actually have to make your bed. Every day.
Some people, apparently, dismiss these pesky Realtors and their annoying advice. Some people figure that their house is fine just the way it is, or even more disturbing to contemplate, manage to spruce up their houses with appalling results.
If you have a sense of the absurd and a mobid curiosity, click on over to LovelyListing.com, the anti-HGTV, and lose yourself in the dozens and dozens of actual listings they've posted. Let me repeat: Real people have posted these pictures in real-estate listings all over the world, in the hopes of selling their homes. Some of the houses are crazy, some are inexplicable, and a few are downright scary. So block out a little time, right now, and get ready for a laugh — actually, lots of them.
