This Friday at Crossroads Art Center, the Richmond Craft Mafia will host an opening for their Handmade Art Throwdown. The show will feature work by all the Richmond Craft Mafia artists, along with work by past Mafia member Dawn Anderson. Friday’s opening event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m., and the show will run through Sept. 8. During opening night, 10 percent of sales will be donated to the Richmond SPCA, and after that, 5 percent will be donated.

I’m super excited about this opportunity to browse creations such as handmade bath and body products from Jackson Sage; funky, slightly offbeat jewelry by Keen Designs; homemade perfume from Modern Atelier; elegant ceramics by Tasha McKelvey; and vintage-inspired baubles from Twist Style.

There will also be wine for sale from Cooper Vineyards and food from Sticks Kebob Shop, The Melting Pot, Gearhart’s Chocolates and Cabot.

The Real Small Art League will also be hosting an opening for their Creative Kindness Throwdown that same night. This show will feature original works of selected Real Small Art League Members and will benefit Art 180.

Both shows are part of The Art of Business Throwdown, an Apprentice-style competition hosted by Slash Coleman that’s pitting The Richmond Craft Mafia against the Real Small Art League to promote visual artists. Both teams are hosting events to compete, and the winner will be chosen by Noah Scalin based on the philanthropic reach of their projects, overall show sales, media exposure and the growth of each team’s platform.
